Legendary Marta Bastianelli, winner of Ghent - Wevelgem

Incredible, immense, legendary: Marta Bastianelli has taken today one of the most prestigious victories in the Italian Cycling and Team Alè- Cipollini overall history. Extraordinary like the work done by her teammates, like Chloe Hosking as last member of the #YellowFluoOrange “train”, who launched Marta to a true triumph in the final 500 meters of one of the greatest races in the UCI calendar, one week before the Tour of Flanders.

The Palm Sunday is coloured of #YellowFluoOrange and the good premonition began yestraday, as the team car took the number one: no other teams had more points the day before the race. The result confirmed it, with a spectacular sprint win, few centimeters faster than the Belgian Champion Jolien D’Hoore, winner in De Panne last Thursday, and the German Lisa Klein. This is the first 2018 Women’s World Tour win for the Team Alè - Cipollini and the personal third one for Marta Bastianelli, after a stage at the Setmana Valenciana and the Trofeo Oro in Euro in Montignoso.

“A fantastic season start has been crowned today” - declared the Team Manager Fortunato Lacquaniti - “A perfect race and a legendary win in a mythical Ghent - Wevelgem”. We are so strong, let’s celebrate this win!”

Marta Bastianelli showed her emotions: “This win means how intense was the winter preparation. I want to dedicate it to my teammates, the staff and my family. I am mum and it is a harder work to do, that’s a bigger win. Chlow was extraordinary in the final 500 meters, I launched myself 200 meters later and I won. It’s one of the greatest days of my career”.

Marta Bastianelli is now in place 3 of the UCI WWT Individual Ranking, with Chloe Hosking 5th. The Alè - Cipollini gains one position in the Team Ranking, in third place.

Next race is the Dwars Door Vlaanderen on Wednesday, 28th March.
